NURSES PERCEIVED FACTORS: NEWS 2 IMPLEMENTATION IN HO HOSPITAL, GHANA

Abstract

Background: The national Early Warning Score (NEWS 2) tool is used in hospitals to identify and treat deteriorating patients.


Aims: To study nurses’ perceived factors in the implementation of (NEWS 2) in Ho Teaching Hospitals (HTH), Ghana.


Methods: The study adopted a cross-sectional study design. The total population of nurses for the study was 382. A stratified random sampling technique was used with a sample size of 195 nurses from the Medical and Surgical department. Questionnaire was used as an instrument. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).


Results: Most of the respondents 115(65.7%) were females. The findings showed that nurses perceived intrapersonal factors as important with mean score of (M=4.196, S.D. = 0.873).


Conclusions: Nurses perceived intrapersonal factors and interpersonal factors as more important. Therefore, the identified factors should be addressed to enhance the implementation of NEWS - 2 in HTH, Ghana
