Abstract

Introduction: Nurses play a vital role in healthcare, but their heavy workload and many responsibilities can lead to burnout and health problems. With a global shortage of nurses, they face extra challenges. However, technology can help nurses do their jobs better if they embrace it.

Objective: To assess the perceived acceptance of technology innovation and to identify the factors influencing acceptance of technology in nursing practice among nurses in the selected health care facilities in Lagos State.

Materials and Method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, utilizing random sampling technique. The result of reliability of the instrument was at 0.88 using Cronbach's Alpha. Two hundred and thirty-six self-structured questionnaires were administered and retrieved. Both descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were carried out using the SPSS Statistic 22 software.

Results: The findings of this study showed the mean age of the respondents is 37±10.85 years. Most respondents 233(98.7%) had good knowledge of technology in nursing practice. Majority of the respondents 233(98.7%) had a positive perception of technology in nursing practice while 3(1.3%) had negative perception. Most 208(88.1%) of respondents showed more acceptance of technology in nursing practice. The relationship between perception and acceptance, age and perception were not statistically significant at a p-value >0.05 while years of experience and acceptance was statistically significant at a p-value <0.05. Based on these findings, the study shows that majority of the respondents have positive perception and more acceptance of technology in nursing practice. Identified factors affecting acceptance of technology in nursing practice include perceived ease of use, educational training and perceived usefulness.

Conclusion: Nurses in both facilities recognized the importance of technology but had concerns about its utilization. Ongoing training and cybersecurity measures can address these, enhancing patient care and nursing practice.
